Jim O'Hare
Jim O’Hare was a resident of Steamboat Springs, a dad to three sons and husband to cancer survivor Carol O’Hare. Like many of us who live in Steamboat he was super active, valued the community and was involved in various local organizations. He rode a Moots, played tennis and was as fit as any 63 year old could be.
For someone who never had a major illness, never spent time in a hospital and never smoked, the diagnosis of lung cancer in November 2004 was a total shock. Jim died several weeks later of complications from the disease.
#1 Killer
Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. More people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined. It’s particularly deadly because, as in Jim’s case, symptoms often don’t appear until it’s too late. It is the most diagnosed cancer in women and the second most diagnosed cancer in men (after prostate cancer).
You can help by participating in this event. Half the proceeds will stay in Steamboat to support cancer services and half will go to the LiveStrong Foundation to help in research and cancer services.
