Turning 36 marked more than another year for Lee Nagel, it also brought a frightening dose of reality as she was diagnosed with a rare form of anal cancer. The doctor’s weren’t very positive about her odds of survival. Fortunately, her treatments proved positive and Lee is a cancer survivor.

To find an outlet for the emotions they had experienced during Lee’s struggle, her husband and brother-in-law set out to raise money to give back to cancer research. They chose the Lance Armstrong Foundation for their progressive means of raising money. Steamboat’s Dave Nagel chose to run a marathon while his brother, Steve set out to finish a 100 mile bike ride.

While the training was intense for both brothers, the community support of the ride kept the pressure on Dave to pursue the training and push himself to finish. And finish he did in 4 hours, 24 minutes and 31 seconds. The brother’s efforts raised $38,359 for cancer research.

This year, Dave is turning his attention to Steamboat Springs and bringing in money on a local as well as global level to fund those fighting cancer. The Ride 4 Yellow is a way of bringing the Steamboat community together to fight for a cause that affects over a million Americans every year.
